Child Aid Ireland was originally founded in 1996 by Tony Barron, to help local children and the poorest of the poor in Tamil Nadu in India. Since then it has sponsored and helped educate over 4,000 children. The organisation is run by volunteers and has a separate office in India, Child Aid Trust, that administrates the sponsorship and assesses, coordinates and monitors all new and existing projects.
Child Aid Ireland-India (CAII) sponsors the education of over 1,000 children in Tamil Nadu in India. An increasingly important part of our work is improving the education and welfare of the mothers of the children. We do this via our 56 mothers self-help groups where 850 women meet on a monthly basis. Every month we are now providing 16 mothers with a loan to purchase a cow, which is a life changing experience for them.
