New Member: Sheila Byrne from ReadAssist

Welcome to Jenny’s story…

The ReadAssist was developed over a number of years to help my daughter Jenny. It has been a long and difficult journey but definitely one worth taking.

I realised very early that Jenny spelt words phonetically, experienced difficulty while reading and focusing on one line at a time. After much uncertainty Jenny was diagnosed as mildly dyslexic.

Jenny’s difficulty while reading is common to both children and adults. In particular, the ‘black on white’ traditional presentation of books can cause some frustration to the reader when trying to focus on individual words as the written material appears distorted.

After trying different techniques and products to assist my daughters reading, none of which really helped

I developed a new reading aid, the ReadAssist. The first prototype I made was very basic but has had many adaptations since then culminating in the IDI design award in 2011.  This simple but effective device helps reduce visual clutter and aids focus through the use of an adjustable frame with changeable coloured lens.

To date, this award-winning reading aid device has helped not just Jenny but thousands of children and adults to improve their reading capabilities.

The ReadAssist worked for Jenny, I really hope it works for you too.
