In her work as an artist Helen specialises in creating original, site-specific art in paint, stained glass and mosaic, commissioned by a wide range of individuals and organizations in the USA, Ireland, and UK. Her technical skills combined with her ability to problem solve, collaborate, and connect with a shared artistic vision, have generated a wide spectrum of artistic experiences. These range from a 110 ft by 9 ft painted mural on permanent display in the Glasgow Concert Hall, to a 2000 square feet church artwork in mosaic
After completing a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Helen continued her studies with a postgraduate qualification from St Martins College and a stained glass apprenticeship in Siena, Italy. Based in Wexford, Ireland, she has travelled and exhibited extensively.
In addition to her large-scale commissions Helen lectures, runs art classes and facilitates group art projects that require an understanding of the needs and abilities of each individual in the group in order to fully encompass their experiences in a meaningful manner. In 2012, the group exhibition ‘Lives Remembered’, commissioned by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and directed by Helen, won the Emmer Lovatt Award at the Wexford Opera Festival.

Wanting to improve your painting skills?
I run art classes in painting, drawing and mosaic, to suit all levels and abilities, in the friendly and relaxed environment of my professional art studio on the edge of Wexford Town. Whether you have never tried painting before or want to improve your existing skills and take things further, I can help.
The main principle behind my teaching method is that if you enjoy what you are doing you will want to do more of it and, if you do more of it (with a little guidance), you will naturally improve. It is as simple as that! In my art classes students are encouraged to explore their creativity while developing painting skills at a pace that feels comfortable for each individual.
For beginners, the art class is an exploration of their individual creative potential as much as it is a technical learning experience. For the more advanced painters who often become ‘stuck’ at a particular level, I can help introduce new skills, challenges, and achievable goals to move them on to the next level.
All of my art classes are run within a fun, yet professional, environment. For those students that wish to be involved, there are regular exhibitions, talks, and events outside of the class setting. Alternatively, the painting class may simply be your opportunity to become absorbed, relax, and lose yourself in your own creativity.
There are both daytime and evening art classes at various times during the week and weekend workshops once a month. Due to demand, in addition to the adult art classes, I am introducing children’s and young adult art sessions.
Whatever level you are at, I can help.
During term time there are several classes running each week, normally in the morning and evening. Morning classes run from 10.30 until 12.30, and evening classes from 7.30 until 9.30pm. Each term normally last for eight weeks.
Students of all ages and backgrounds attend the classes in a friendly, relaxed, professional studio environment. And, for those who wish to be more involved there are regular arts and social events held outside of the studio setting. Based in Drinagh, on the edge of Wexford Town, the studio has ample free parking, wheelchair access, and a café within the same building complex.
In addition to weekday classes, weekend workshops run once a month and, due to demand, children’s and young adult art sessions during holiday periods.
As class times and dates may be subject to variation from term to term, please call me to discuss your requirements. Due to current demand pre-booking is essential. If you have any questions regarding art classes please contact me.
Gift vouchers for art classes and workshops are available on request.
‘I enjoy my class so much because Helen is such an inspirational teacher. The fact that I didn’t need any previous experience or special skills really attracted me to her class. The creative, encouraging and friendly atmosphere in her workshop has give me the confidence to produce my own individual mosaic artworks’.
Helen’s classes are great fun, and very sociable. Her care and attention brings out the creative best in all of us. I’ve learned I can actually paint!
‘I have been attending art classes with Helen every Thursday morning for the last two years. I find the classes such fun, and have made some great friends. Never thought I would be painting pictures that I would be proud enough to hang in my home, and that friends and family would be ordering paintings from me’
