Joan’s Autumn/Winter edit for the mature woman
As I line up the winter wardrobes for my clients, I always figure out a way to incorporate the trends while still keeping the looks real and age appropriate, meaning wearable clothes that translate to everyday life.
Leading the way is the oversized coat, the perfect layering piece. I’d go for a belted style to nail the look and show off your curves, or for the boyish figure opt for a straighter style peacoat to streamline your look. It should be worn with slim-fitting trousers or pencil skirt to show off your shape, as going baggy all over will just swamp your frame. The same balancing act applies for the cosy oversized jumper.
Leather and Lace
Who says we can’t wear leather? Just because the skinny jeans are out for our age group, a great way to translate this trend is with a chic leather jacket or skirt (not together though!) in feminine shapes and silhouettes to keep it ladylike and modern. The leather jacket is a true all-rounder. Mix it with everything from proper business clothes, to casual weekend looks, to chic evening occasions. Lace is another big hit – lace details on a cardigan, blouse or dress will still provide coverage and create a tasteful and appropriate look.
Hope this helps you get inspired for the new season. Remember to be a smart shopper, remain focused, keep it real and, most importantly, have fun!
