One of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, CATS will come to The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Irish musical theatre star, Susan McFadden will join the cast from 21st August to 4th September in the role of Grizabella.

Based on T.S Eliot’s  ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking adaptation CATS is directed by Trevor Nunn, with choreography by Gillian Lynne  and set and costume design by John Napier.  Re-creating the direction and choreography for the tour is Chrissie Cartwright. Including one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most memorable musical scores, spectacular set design, extraordinary costumes and stunning choreography, CATS is a uniquely magical musical.

On just one special night of the year, all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball where Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to the heaviside layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
Music, dance and verse fuse together in an enchanting blend of fantasy, drama and romance.

CATS opened at the New London Theatre on 11 May 1981 and played almost 9,000 performances. It closed on 11 May 2002 having celebrated 21 record-breaking years and winning an Olivier Award for Best Musical (1981). On Broadway it was the winner of 7 Tony Awards (including Best Musical and Best Director) and ran for an amazing 18 years making it second only to “THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA” as Broadway’s longest running musical.

The Smurfs 2 – out 2nd August 2013

The popular little blue funsters take on the nasty Naughties in this fabulous new adventure. Undaunted by his defeat in the first Smurfs movie, evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) is back with a dastardly new plan. This time he’s conjured up two rascally new creatures, aptly called the Naughties. Gargamel hopes that Vexy (Christina Ricci) and Hackus (JB Smoove) will help him to capture the all-powerful Smurf essence. But he soon finds that a spell known only by Smurfette (Katy Perry) can transform the Naughties into real Smurfs. So he kidnaps Smurfette and whisks her to Paris, where Vexy and Hackus set to work on winning her over to the Naughty side! Now Papa (Jonathan Winters), Clumsy (Anton Yelchin), Grouchy (George Lopez) and Vanity (John Oliver) must return to the human world once again. Their mission is to reunite with humans Patrick (Neil Patrick Harris) and Grace Winslow (Jayma Mays) to win Smurfette back.

The Lone Ranger -out soon

Johnny Depp saddles up as Tonto in this spectacular western from the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ team. John Reid (Armie Hammer) is a noble young city lawyer who returns home to the Wild West. Shortly after he’s deputised as a Texas Ranger by his brother Dan (James Badge Dale), their entire party is ambushed by bad guys and left for dead. But John survives and is nursed back to health by mystical Indian Tonto (Johnny Depp). The unlikely duo bond over their shared thirst for justice. Tonto then persuades John to adopt a masked persona to take on corrupt and evil Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson), who has both the railroad and cavalry in his pocket. And so the Lone Ranger is born! Johnny Depp teams up with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ director Gore Verbinski once again for this thrill-packed spectacle that re-invents the Old West icon for a new generation.

The Sea tells the story of Max Morden who returns to the seaside resort where he spent his childhood in search of peace after the death of his wife.

The sea premiered at the 2013 Edinburgh International Film Festival and received mixed reviews. Rating it at 7/10,the Screenkicker website said “intimate, superbly acted meditation on grief and abandonment that will make you think about how we cope with tragedy”.[4] Marc Adams, chief film critic of Screen Daily wrote, “the film’s emotional still waters run deep and the film is gently watchable as a series of fine actors deliver nuanced and powerful performances

The Sea, directed by Stephen Brown and based on the Booker prize-winning novel by John Banville, closed out the 25th Galway Film Fleadh . Produced by Dublin-based Samson Films, Ciarán Hinds leads an impressive cast as a widower returning to the seaside resort where he spent summers as a child. The setting for the novel, Wexford, was the location for much of the principle photography.

It is director Stephen Brown’s first feature, and he has been working in TV since he made his last short, the successful The Curious, 18 years ago. Stephen spoke to Film Ireland saying that he was “honoured that The Sea was shown at the Galway Film Fleadh and that it is recognised as an Irish film. In making it, Ireland has come to mean a lot to me. I found a poetic resonance in the way words are spoken and I found an exacting beauty in the landscape and weather which, all combined, gave me a powerful set of materials to work with. As an Englishman whose contact with Ireland feels like a delight and a beginning, I hope Galway enjoys my movie. Thank you!”

Ciarán Hinds, fresh from the successes of Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, heads up a cast that includes Natascha McElhone (Californication, The Truman Show), Charlotte Rampling (The Duchess), Rufus Sewell (The Illusionist), Sinead Cusack (Eastern Promises, V for Vendetta), Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter) and Ronan Keating’s daughter Missy Keating.

The Sea tells the story of Max Morden who returns to the seaside resort where he spent his childhood in search of peace after the death of his wife. After finding lodges at a boarding house run by the frosty Miss Vavasour, his trip begins to dig up ghosts from his past. His mind returns to the idyllic and eventful summer when he met the Grace family. As Max returns to memories of this unconventional family, and of his departed wife, he will also uncover a distant trauma long forgotten.

The Internship

Vaughn and Wilson play two salesmen who have just been fired by their boss (John Goodman), and their severance package includes informing them just how out-of-touch they are with modern life. While Googling new job vacancies, they happen across an internship within Google itself, and having haphazardly done rather well in the interview, soon find themselves on Google’s HQ campus, competing against 100 other interns for the few full-time positions that are available.

The Internship is basically a Nerds VS Jocks college comedy, except it’s not set on a college campus, and EVERYONE is a nerd. So Vaughn and Wilson find themselves teamed up with a nerd version of a gruff loner, a nerd version of a promiscuous nympho, and a nerd version of … a nerd, and they must combine their nerdy Breakfast Club powers in order to defeat the nerd version of a quarterback bully.

The Internship

We give this film the thumbs up, go and see if you have a spare 2 hours but not a must see!
