82 Story Lane – Festival of Childhood

82 Story Lane is a new and exciting exhibition and festival for families with primary school aged children. It’s run by the EXPO company and we imagined a new and revamped experience for attendees. Here’s flavour of what is planned.

On the morning of February 7th 2015, families from around the country will arrive to the front door of 82 Story Lane. They’ll be met by our affable MC in Neverending Junction, who’ll guide them through the adventure that awaits them. They’ll get to amble up Adventure Boulevard, meander around Curious Drive, through the Enchanted Forest, along the Giant’s Highway into the Jolly Kingdom before entering Legend’s Meadow. And lest they lose their way, our Walking Talking Streetlights will be there at hand to shed some light on the situation and help our Treasure Seekers along their way.

HALL OF FAME – Kids of all ages will get to join in drum sessions; it’ll be loud, it’ll be interactive, it’ll be a barrel of laughs. There’ll be illustrators hosting workshops and teaching new skills and tricks to kids and families alike in our STUDIO 1 & 2, while the little ones can rest a while and satisfy their curiosity for play in the GINGERBREAD HOUSE and FAIRYLAND. Keep an eye out on for updates, as we’ll post the schedule soon on the website, via Twitter @82storylane and on our Facebook page. /82storylane

THE MURAL – A group of well-known Irish illustrators will create a mural beside the stage. By the time 82 Story Lane is over the mural will be complete and as part of our CSR philosophy, we will donate this to a selection of children’s hospitals and charities.

SALON DU CHAT – A chat without the chit. Interesting topics will be served up on a menu for children to choose a topic and get their conversational juices flowing. Parents will be amazed and intrigued about how much their kids have to contribute.

THE DREAMTREE is a place for all the family to write their dreams and aspirations. Derbhile will write to herself 30 years from now about her dreams for the future and Ailish will get the opportunity to write to her six year old self.

THE TREEHOUSE is our seminar room where parenting experts share tips on how to create a happy and harmonious family life.

82 Story Lane is made up of many exciting, adventurous and inspirational lands. There will be surprises around every corner…

TREASURE ISLAND – inspiration for family holidays, fun days out, trips further afield and must-see places 100 ACRE WOOD – a giant den packed with toys, games, musical instruments and indoor and outdoor play equipment

LILLIPUT – includes a range of children’s clothes, accessories and furniture

NEVER NEVER LAND – Lots of exciting sports and outdoor activities that families can take part in together

GREAT EXPECTATIONS – information about education, family planning and insurance delivered with a light touch so it’s easy to absorb THE GIANT PEACH – Full of delicious food, ingredients for healthy family meals and cooking tips

WANDERLAND – a selection of stalls selling handcrafted and artisan goods will be available for our treasure seekers

RDS, Dublin

Exhibition suitable for businesses looking to promote and sell into the family marketplace, particularly for families with primary school aged children.

New Member Helen Creegan-Walsh

After spending 12 years in the Financial Services Industry honing my sales and marketing skills in public and private equity placings in the USA, Europe and Ireland I decided to apply these skills to one of my passions- working with people to achieve their goals.

I started my own busines in this arena. I opened the third Curves Fitness Franchise in Ireland and grew that to 4 outlets in the South East of Ireland with a considerable Revenue Base. This was achieved through the successful management of a team of 20; sales and marketing of the brand including my leading a National Advertising Initiative for the Franchise.

Built on this success, I then became Edexcel Licensed to run a LighterLife Weight Management Franchise. This qualification has a specialist slant on CBT-Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and TA-Transactional Analysis applied to weight loss and weight management. I doubled the business within 2 years and facilitated substantial, life changing weight loss for my client base.

I am now ready to embark on my most interesting role to date. Challenging People with Project 10. So excited and looking forward to this!

Have you heard of the Project 10 Challenge?

Every time an adult loses 10 pounds on the Project 10 Challenge, our company sponsors a child that suffers from childhood obesity for a month with product to start their weight loss journey. Launched in January 2014, over 6,500 new children were sponsored in the first 3 months.

1. Join the Project 10 challenge, help yourself and a child for every 10 pounds you lose. We also GUARANTEE results or your money back.
2. Join the P10 Challenge and Challenge 3 of your friends to take it with you. After all 70 out of every 100 people you know are overweight. 1 in 3 are obese. You will make a bigger impact, help more kids and get your own Challenge kits for FREE.
3. Become a charity partner with us and help through Community Challenges, Church Faith & Fitness and Corporate Wellness
4. Help promote the Project 10 Challenge Part or Full time and earn an income.

Ireland is on course to be the most obese country in Europe by 2030. We can change this headline together.

Please pass this on to anyone you think may be interested in making an impact in their community. Thank you in advance

Oh, and I CHALLENGE YOU to lose 10 pounds (or put on 10 pounds of lean muscle) and sponsor a child….DO YOU ACCEPT?

New Member Multyfarnham Cookery School

I have been working as a chef and also own my own business in mullingar co Westmeath. The reason I gave up my pastry shop and started focusing on a cookery school was that I could spend maximum time with my son.

After finishing Hotel School she joined the Le Meridian chain of hotels. She met Dayantha – a pastry chef in Sri Lanka. Together they travelled as chefs to many countries and settled in Ireland eleven years ago.

Both have worked in many award winning restaurants in the midlands.  They opened their coffee shop in Mullingar , but both yearned to share their knowledge and enjoyment of their vast learning.

Dayantha has tutored part-time in the Athlone Institute of Technology (A.I.T.) and Kamalika has undertaken many classes and demonstrations  in LARCC Cancer Centre in Multyfarnham where she has worked for the last eleven years catering for the residential weeks and pamper days.
Together they have won many awards and medals both in Ireland and abroad. All courses are conducted by Kamalika and Dayantha. After every class the participants get to taste the dishes and get many tips.

Yvonne is the owner of the online store for high quality preloved children’s clothes. You can find high quality brands like Jacadi, Gant, Ralph Lauren and many more.

Having lived in Germany, Spain, France and Switzerland before moving to Ireland Yvonne Isabel has a multilingual background. Staying in Switzerland she came across several boutiques selling high quality second hand designer kids clothes. She liked this approach and the excitement when finding a pretty dress at a bargain price. And raising three children herself keeping expenses within reason is an important factor.

Why not introducing this concept as an online experience to Ireland? This is the idea behind MyCherishedKidsClothes which is based in Clonskeagh, Dublin 14, Ireland.

New Member Lynne founder of new biz Buttons and Bows Boutique

Buttons & Bows Boutique is my “new baby”

Here at Buttons & Bows Boutique you will find beautiful baby and toddler clothing & accessories at affordable prices. Our ranges are in sizes from New Born to School Starting ages. We also offer a wide range of beautiful Baby Gifts, Disney & Character wear and something a bit different – something special. We want you to have an enjoyable online shopping experience with us and for you to love our store and its beautiful ranges.

I set up my online store for 2 simple reasons, the first to be able to work flexible hours allowing me to be close by to my little toddler Emily and the second because I felt Ireland needs a baby and toddler online clothing store offering variety, quality and affordability through a friendly easy to use set up.

I have always been a keen online shopper, I love nothing more than the postman/courier arriving at my front door with something new that I have recently ordered, that was until I had my first baby! As a first time mum all I wanted to buy was beautiful things for my beautiful baby but I found the options for online shopping for baby clothes limited and in most cases very expensive. So the idea for Buttons & Bows Boutique slowly started from there.

Now that my baby has turned into my toddler I found the same issue buying toddler clothing online so Buttons & Bows Boutique is offering a range from New Born to School Starting ages.

Based in the Sunny South East, we are 100% Irish owned and Independent. We are brand new and offering a range of items that bit different. We want to give customers that same love of their parcel arriving at their front door.

My name is Sheila Carrasco, I was born in Reus (Spain).I am happily married and recently became mother of my sweet baby girl, Emma.

Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had, and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed. New Member Virtue Naa Ayeley Shine – founder of Emerald and Wax

My name is Virtue Naa Ayeley Shine, I live Galway.

I am originally from Ghana in West Africa. I was born in the capital Accra and lived there until my early teens at which time I moved to New York with my mother and brother.
About 3 years ago I moved to Galway with my husband and what was then, my small(er) family. We now have four boys.

I am a self-taught ‘crafter’ and designer and a fierce fashionista. It all started when I took up knitting, a very hip New York pastime and perfect for those long subway commutes. I then decided I’d like to move on to sewing. I bought my very first sewing machine in a little craft store in Brooklyn called Daisy’s without having any real knowledge of what sewing entailed. All I had was the drive to learn and a love for the craft.

My influences are wide ranging and start with visiting the fabric stalls in Ma kola market in Accra when I was a very young girl. I am particularly influenced by African fabrics, the stories that the many hundreds of different prints tell, the positive influence it has on women in particular and the many different styles of attire that these fabrics embrace. For example, wrap skirts, which have a simplicity that almost requires no effort on the part of the wearer because the fabrics themselves combine beautiful and vibrant colours and designs that lend a simple elegance. I also take some fashion inspiration from New York in terms of a sense that ‘anything is possible’ and the notion of mixing things up while maintaining a high sense of style.

Indeed style is very important to me and ultimately I want to apply a high degree of craftsmanship to produce very stylish wares and accessories. My ideas are many and are constantly in flux which makes my work that bit more interesting for me and hopefully this is also something that comes through in what I make.

I produce a range of crafts all of my own designs and including skirts, bags, clutches, and cushion covers.

In the last year or so I have put a lot of time in to learning my craft and fine tuning my ideas.
Then last May I started Emerald and Wax, in my kitchen taking over our dinning table and then later as my online store. Emerald and Wax is in its infancy and I’m learning all about what it means to have an online ‘presence’. It has given me a great opportunity to showcase my wares and helped to get in touch both with many other ‘crafters’ and also people who love handmade crafts.

New Member Miriam O`Connor founder of Webkids

Miriam is the founder and CEO of Webkids. Webkids is currently developing a web based solution to deliver online courses to kids enabling self-paced learning that can be adapted to suit individual learning needs.

Webkids has recognised a need to provide adequate “support for learning” especially for children who may require help through the learning process. It aims to provide the necessary supports and feedback which will be built in to the course, promoting independent learning while building a child’s confidence and self-esteem. Collaboration with peers will be promoted as the child progresses through the course modules.

The idea behind Webkids has been born out of personal experience and I hope that as it develops, it will bring peace of mind to many parents and provide an invaluable resource to many teachers, while giving children the best possible chance to advance on a personal and academic level.

Webkids will help children develop problem solving skills, enrich cognitive skills and promote internet awareness on an educational level that will benefit kids socially, emotionally and academically.

Webkids is currently being developed…..watch this space…..an exciting learning adventure awaits !!

New Member Suzie Evans – Toys and Games

Toys and Games

My name is Suzie Evans and I opened this online toy shop in 2014. I have two little girls who love toys and I had been a stay at home mum to them for five years. Then, my children started school and I wanted to stretch my brain, get paid and stay busy, but I didn’t want to be tied into a job that meant I ‘d miss collecting my children from school or doing fun things with them in the afternoons. So, with advice from several very encouraging friends and a very supportive husband, I decided to open my own online toy shop.

I wanted to stock quality toys for reasonable prices. Wooden toys that will last past one child (and maybe even into next generations); educational toys and kits that will make learning fun; and creative kits that will bring out natural talents in children and which they can show off the end product to their friends and family.

I have chosen toys and games which I feel my girls and their friends would really love. I really hope you find that your children love them too! I believe that the toys stocked in my shop make a refreshing alternative to the heavily branded and advertised plastic-ware that many toy shops stock. I really believe in the toys I stock and know that they will pretty much sell themselves. Their quality and development, educational and play value make them super gifts.

Enjoy browsing and feel free to contact me with suggestions of toys which you think I should stock as I’m always on the lookout for lovely toys and games.

New Member Scribbaloo Art Apps for Kids

Do you remember the days when kids would sit down with an old cereal box, a scissors and some tape and make something incredibly creative? While we love the old fashioned way of playing and making, we also love new technology and passionately believe that these two approaches of bringing creativity into kids lives can not only happily co-exist but also enhance each other greatly.

Scribbaloo creates apps for young kids using real stuff like cardboard, popsicle sticks, felt, sticky tape, foil and any other materials we can get our hands on! Scribbaloo apps entertain, encourage learning, cause much giggling and inspire kids using them to think “I might give this making thing a go in real life one day!”.

Co-founded by two Irish artists & moms, our names are Mary Noonan and Fionnuala Hanahoe and we met while sharing an artist studio in The Red Stables in Dublin. Together we have facilitated hundreds of art workshops, over several years, with thousands of children. From this experience we have learned that while creative workshops are an important and fun amenity for kids, they are not always frequent and accessible enough for parents. So we decided to go digital with our knowledge founding Scribbaloo and…learning how to code!

This was a daunting task at first, but our motto is “creativity makes all things possible” and those early days of frantically sifting through thick coding books seem a distant memory now.

Our first app Scribbaloo Pigs is available on the App Store and Amazon App Store for Android and our second app Scribbaloo Train is to be released very soon. Click here to find out more

Our philosophy is that the creative potential in every child is immense. We believe that the most amazing artworks can be made with the simplest of materials and that imagination is always the secret and most special ingredient!

Would you like to make your very own pig out of easy-to-find and fun materials? Well it is amazing what you can do with Scribbaloo and his friends as they show you how in this interactive and creative app, full of fun, giggles, colors, sounds and much much more…

Download for iPad & iPhone

Download for Android

Scribbaloo is a creative and loveable monkey who invites kids to ‘Make Some Pigs’ with him and his artist friends: Auntie Esther, Terry, Iggy, Mr. Featherton and Hairy Molly. In his studio, Scribbaloo guides kids through the process of making a pig out of cardboard and other materials. Making a pig is great fun, and each page has lots of sounds, interactivity and animations. Scribbaloo Pigs also encourages and inspires kids to explore their creativity using the App as a guide for making their very own pig in real life!

What is prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica)

Prickly pear oil is extracted during a very time consuming and difficult process. To produce 1 liter prickly pear oil they need about 1 million pips (seeds) and it takes almost 1 week (36 hours) for manual processing of liters of oil seeds. The kernels are separated from the pulp almost 500 kg. After careful washing, the seeds outside classification air dried and then cold pressed in high quality cold pressed oil. The seeds are almost as hard as pebbles.
Prickly pear oil for the skin. Prickly pear has a level of linoleic acid (65%), an abundant content of tocopherol (more than 1000 mg/kg) and the presence of Delta 7 stigma sterol, because of that prickly pear oil has a powerful anti oxidative activity, a high moisturizing value, and a real cell rejuvenatory ability. Those elements combined set off a powerful anti oxidative activity, a high moisturizing value. Prickly pear oil helps to support the natural nutrition and protection mechanism of the skin, refines skin texture and brightens the complexion. The oil penetrates easily the skin.

Would you like a radiant glow? Why not try our Prickly Pear oil.

New Member Nautilus Beauty & Holistic Therapies Centre by Sarah Wilson & Jenny Faison

Nautilus Beauty & Holistic Therapies Centre is owned & operated by Sarah Wilson & Jenny Faison. Their individual journeys began years ago when they trained to become massage & beauty therapists.

Their paths overlapped when they discovered a mutual love for organic, natural products that they could incorporate into facial and massage treatments. That path has now led to a shared journey with the creation of Nautilus Beauty & Holistic Therapies Centre.

Sarah is mum to two beautiful daughters, ages 6 & nearly 5 months. Jenny is an auntie to two nieces, ages 6 and 2, with another one due in November. It’s no surprise that Nautilus will be offering a range of pregnancy treatments as well as baby massage classes!

Why Nautilus you might ask? The Nautilus is an amazing sea animal that lives within a spiral shell.  As the Nautilus grows, it adds on a new chamber to its shell for each stage of life. As long as the Nautilus continues to grow, it will continue to build new chambers and add to its beautiful spiral.  It has outgrown previous chambers and must always move forward, there is no going back. There is happy comfort in its current chamber, but like the nautilus, we strive to grow and continue this wonderful pattern through life.

For us, the Nautilus shell represents what we aim to achieve in both our personal and professional lives ~ growing beyond our current chamber of comfort, embracing the beauty of life, and working to maintain the balance.

We are delighted to offer a variety of treatments including:

Massage Therapies from €45

Organic Facials from €30

Body Treatments / Wraps / Scrubs from €45

Happy Hands & Feet: all things nails from €10

We also run a number of classes and workshops such as baby massage, yoga, meditation, nutrition, skincare & make-up, and much more.

New Member Gail Condon founder of Writing for Tiny

Gail is the founder of Writing for Tiny. She is a mother of one and a registered paediatric and general nurse. Gail is now studying speech and language therapy. The idea behind these books came from both parents and children that she has met over the years. Gail noticed how responsive children were to the illustrations that she drew to distract them from procedures. They were especially receptive if they could identify themselves with the drawing …her idea was born!

Writing for Tiny is a new and innovative way to speak to children through the magic of books. It is designed to help parents or relatives to communicate with their little people about common everyday issues and about the more difficult aspects of life. Sometimes it may be difficult to find the words and that is where Writing for Tiny can help. Writing for Tiny will write and illustrate a tailor made eBook for you and your child. These are carefully written and lovingly hand illustrated eBooks. Choose between a Writing for Tiny Tale, which we personalise, or a Writing for Tiny Topic with one of our Tiny characters!

New Member Gillian Treacy – Work shops and courses helping women to increase their capacity for success

Work shops and courses helping women to increase their capacity for success

Through individual sessions and group workshops, I coach women to define what success means to them, to think creatively, trust their intuition and take the necessary steps to manifest the lives they want to create. Throughout my own life experiences, I have learned to trust myself; to follow my intuition and expand into the courage to take necessary risks. Life loves us as part of itself. We are all creative beings with the capacity to unfold our talents and bring our dreams to fruition.

As women we are more than able to support one another to become the women we were born to be. I worked for twenty years as founder and co-ordinator of a two year full time course in Photographic Studies, using that wonderful medium as a tool to connect individuals with their deep creative capacity in order to transform their lives.

Personal life challenges prompted me to study and become qualified in Psychotherapy, Shamanism, Energy Healing, Life and Business Coaching, Meditation and Mindfulness and Tai Chi and QiGong. I synthesize all of the above in my courses and workshops. A love of people, life, and our immense capacity for spiritual depth and connection are my motivations in this wonderful work.

Some Customer Feedback

I attended Gillian’s Are You Ready To Inspire course. I found the process to be transforming. I felt supported and inspired during and after the course. With Gillian’s help I managed to get out of my own way and truly believe that what I have to offer the community has value and that I am only limited by my own beliefs. I now believe I can do anything I want to. Gillian continues to support and inspire me.

Olive Walsh

Since I started with Gillian, I learned how to increase my energy and daily focus through her excellent coaching and Tai Chi experience. The course worked towards creating and developing my visions to integrate into my daily life and working towards my overall bigger goals.  Gillian was excellent developing my creativity using inspirational talks and her knowlege to identify my goals and to focus me.  This was done through weekly support and her Tai Chi experience.  Gillian is a great teacher and I enjoyed the course very much.  Thank you Gillian

New Member Aine Breen founder of Liwu Jewellery

My name is Aine Breen and I created Liwu Jewellery while struggling to find my way in a new world that I had been thrown into. I am Irish and moved to China with my husband in 2011. I gave up my much-loved job and life in Dublin to support his career in Beijing.

My designs are the product of finding meaning in this new world. At first, the way people acted and their manner puzzled me and sometimes offended me. I was in a way suffering from culture shock – the vast numbers of people, traffic, and difficulty in communicating even when the person spoke perfect English. However, once I started examining the ancient characters (and even the simplified version used in every day life), I realised the richness of the Chinese language. In many ways, the Chinese save face and cannot express to each other their emotions in spoken word. In contrast the written word i.e. the characters used in Chinese language are so rich and full of meaning. Chinese people, for example, do not say ‘I love you’ to a lover. This is because of a need to ‘save face’ and because ‘love’ is regarded as such a highly emotional state.

I always appreciated delicate fine jewellery and my favourite piece was a simple necklace that just said ‘love’. I like to make a subtle statement with my jewellery. For many people, jewellery is a form of expression. Jewellery allows expressions through words and symbolism and for individuals to make a statement. Liwu jewellery incorporates Chinese calligraphy and allows individuals to make a statement and express themselves in a very subtle manner. Many pieces incorporate Chinese wishes, beliefs and also just simple words from their language. It is a collection of my favourites which I picked up from individuals I met, Chinese culture books I read, Chinese language classes and of course, my calligraphy teacher, Paul Wang.

‘Liwu’ means gift in Chinese. All pieces come with a beautiful box and a ‘meaning card’ containing an explanation of what the characters mean.

Tell us about your business:
My background is in the Contact Centre Industry but Ive started my own business that is giving me a lifestyle that my own job couldn’t give me via Forever Living.

Founded in 1978, and operating in over 150 countries, Forever and its affiliates have become the largest grower, manufacturer and distributor of aloe vera and bee products in the world. Avoiding the use of herbicides and pesticides, our patented stabilisation process ensures our aloe vera is essentially identical to the inner leaf gel. And because we are not dependent on any other supplier, we can guarantee the quality of our aloe.

The key to our success is therefore a commitment to quality and purity. We start with 100% inner gel, adding just enough other ingredients to produce outstanding products. The versatility of this product means that aloe vera can be taken as a drink or applied to the skin. Not tested on animals, the Forever collection is a testament to nature’s capacity to help us look and feel our best.

New Member Mumager

At Mumager we are passionate about helping mums successfully manage their return to work after Maternity leave. We offer advice on how to juggle babies, bosses and to-do lists while giving you techniques allowing you to banish guilt and keeping everyone happy.

We are 3 associates, all female, who noticed through our own individual work that there was a need to provide some practical advice and support for mums returning to work after maternity leave. In our line of work we meet and talk with a lot of women who are working mums. Recognizing the pressures that many of us are juggling, Mumager was born from the three of us wanting to do something practical to help mums manage that transition back to work. Our aim is to share practical advice and tools that manage that transition – so that everyone – parents, children and bosses benefit.

We are all based in Ireland and teamed up last year to create our Mumager workshop which we will be running in Dublin Wednesday 28th May 2014.

Tracy Gunn

As a self-employed working mum I’m well versed in juggling conference calls, travel and deadlines with all that goes with having two gorgeous little boys. I help people to be their best at work, rest and play by running focused and interactive workshops on a range of personal development topics.  I’m proud to say I can still run in my high-heels though you’ll now find a pair of flats tucked in my bag for the quick changeovers and mad sprints to catch a flight.  My aim is to equip working mums with a range of tools that they can apply to their work and home lives to make the return to work easier for everyone.

Alex Kotsos

A career in corporate human resources & training has helped me understand how to manage difficult people and difficult situations. Although I’m not a mum, I have been an agony aunt for many distressed and unhappy employees! I have a common-sense practical approach to things and a passion for seeing people achieve their potential. I know that unbiased common-sense HR advice can be hard to come by so it’s important to me to share my knowledge and support mums returning to work.

Carma O’ Connor Dunne

My aim is to help you keep your balance. As a Life and Career Coach I am passionate about supporting and enabling others to reach their goals and I have the enthusiasm and energy to match. Taking time out in this fast paced world of ours is definitely a challenge, especially for all the mums out there juggling so much. My work supporting mums returning to the work force has shown me that a positive attitude, along with clarity surrounding strengths and options can enable you to successfully manage your return to work while continuing to be an excellent parent.

New Member Lena Hulsmann

I love to make colourful accessories, especially for the young and the young at heart, for mammies and children, for happy families and those, wo only want to put the extra bit of colour and funkiness to their daily lives.

Large Zipped Fabric Make-Up Bag

After my first child was born in 2009 and I found it very hard to find accessories, clothes and other bits and pieces for the nursery, our family home and my new, exciting life as a busy mommie, I started looking for fabrics and learned how to sew and to make many things the way I wanted them to be. Funky, colourful, special. And NOT the way you would find them at the retailers.

A set of three funky, fluffy, absorbent washcloths.

Now, I am selling more and more of my handcrafted thingies and I really LOVE to put the extra bit of colour into other peoples day-to-day routines. To take the next step of selling and to reach more people with a passion for colours, I have opened a shop on Etsy just recently. All items are made in my own small but bright and airy workshop in a pet-free and smoke-free environment.

Tilia Kids make lovely colorful baby mobiles that are 100% natural (felt, cotton, wood) and handmade with love for your little ones.

To order, email: tiliakids@gmail.com and we can agree on colors and designs you prefer! The price: €30 (+ postage)

Baby mobiles are one of the most essential toys that can be found in a nursery. They can offer many developmental and educational benefits. When safely used, baby crib mobiles can be one of the best toys that your baby will ever play with.

Moving toys attract a young child’s attention and stimulate interaction, that is why mobiles are brain-boosting and skill-building learning toys for babies (0-6 months).

Most babies will spend a great amount of time in their crib, especially since they sleep anywhere between 12 and 20 hours each day. Their crib is a safe place to play, relax, and enjoy their first few months of life, so it is important to have toys to keep your baby entertained. Mobiles and other baby crib toys are great to include in their crib, since they can keep them occupied as well as help them develop their sight, coordination, and hearing as well.

Visual Stimulation
Develop Motor Skills
Educational Benefits

When hanging the baby mobile, it is important to keep safety in mind. It is incredibly important to make sure that the mobile stays out of the reach of your baby. If your baby were to reach for the mobile and cause it to fall, he or she will be at risk of injury. Be sure to remove the baby mobile when the baby has turned about 6 months old. The baby mobile can be very hazardous when the baby begins reaching because there are strings attached to the mobile that can fall down with it.

When Stella & Dot launched in Ireland just 3 weeks ago, I climbed out form beneath a pile of laundry, closed my eyes, held my breath, and jumped right in to start my own business as a Founding Stylist. And I haven’t looked back. If you haven’t heard of Stella & Dot- it’s a US jewellery and accessories company that gets its roots from Avon and Tupperware parties. But this ain’t your grandmother’s party! Stella & Dot has turned the concept of direct selling on its heels creating a brand that is coveted by women and celebs in six countries (and growing).

Stella 2

Their business model focuses in on exactly how modern consumers want to shop and what they want to shop for. And best of all it’s giving women like me the opportunity to have my own business. I love my kids SO much and am very lucky to be home with them, but I must say it’s been the most fun I’ve had in ages. My design (interior design degree), marketing (previous career), and networking skills have kicked into overdrive and I’m loving it. And you know what? It’s making me a better mom. And oh did I mention the FAB jewellery, scarves, and bags that I get to wear and sell on my online boutique and at trunk shows by appointment.

Tell us about your business:
I work for myself as a Wellness Advocate under the umbrella of a company called doTERRA.

I teach classes showing people how they can use certified pure theraputic grade essential oils as a natural form of healthcare. The oils are so pure they can be used aromatically, topically and internally for a range of health concerns. One drop of peppermint oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea. I teach to groups or to families and friends in the comfort of their own homes. The classes are free and are designed to educate people how they can be proactive in their own healthcare. They are also fun and interactive. And for anybody willing to work hard there is an opportunity to build your own business under the umbrella of doTERRA with full support, training and recognition by simply sharing the oils.

New Member Zooki

Launched in 2013, Zooki is a product made for anyone pushing their little darlings around in a trolley. Having been a full time Mum for almost 10 years, I have spent plenty of time pushing my 3 kiddos around shops! Made with passion, experience and a lot of help, we hope your Zooki will keep your toddler clean + warm + hygienic + entertained + all round happy in a trolley. Getting the groceries is hard enough, so let us help out, even just a bit!

After our own experiences of wiping-down filthy trolley seats, towelling down of wet trolley seats and the constant worry of gnawing on handles where many other hands have been, we decided to fix the situation with Zooki.

Demo models, prototypes, source material, logos, labels, it’s all ready and we think it looks great. We really hope you do too!

Take a read of the stuff below to see some more on the how and why of Zooki, then get in touch with us to get yourself set up, or grab one for a friend.

In 2011, Professor Charles Gerba of the University of Arizona, conducted a study of 85 shopping trollies spaced out over 5 States in America.  The study was intended to investigate the hygiene (or lack of hygiene) of shopping trollies.

The results are horrifying and suggest that shopping trollies are less sanitary than the average public toilet.  Traces of EColi, Salmonella & faeces were found on most of the trollies tested.  It was also noted that trollies are rarely, if ever, sanitised or disinfected.  Read the findings here.

An article in the Irish Independent also mentions a link between childhood Salmonella with shopping trollies.  Read the article here.

We cannot germ-proof every surface that our children touch but we must endeavour to protect them as best we can.  Zooki is the product to help keep those dangerous, nasty germs away from our most precious little people.

“We recently purchased a Zooki for our friend’s twins and they are delighted. Hard enough cleaning a trolley for one child, but two? Now they don’t need to worry about dirty or wet trolleys. It was gift wrapped and made such a lovely present. I’ll be buying more Zooki for friends & family!”

“I am so delighted to have a Zooki – it gives me such peace of mind that my little one is not picking up lots of nasty bugs from a dirty trolley.  It’s also more comfortable for her with its fleece lining.”

Welcome New Member Jenna from HappyFeet Ireland

Tell us about your business:
HappyFeet Irelandwill deliver an enrichment program to children from age 2 to 6 initially in Pre-schools, Primary schools and community centres. The program uses nursery rhymes, songs, stories and fun games with a ball to maximize motor skill development.

Activities in all programs will focus on sports movements and concepts, with an emphasis on soccer. Children will be challenged to develop their balance, foot-eye coordination, spatial awareness and confidence. Our activities increase cardiovascular fitness, muscle development and overall endurance. HappyFeet coaches can format the activities using various methods to achieve the appropriate goals for a given group.

About Jenna

Jenna has been working in the Sports and Fitness Industry for the past ten years, and most recently graduated from UCD with a Masters in Sport & Exercise Management.

Her interest in Fitness began when she started her undergrad in Sports Management in UCD in 2003, she then continued her studies with University of Limerick, as she trained as a fitness instructor and personal trainer while specialising in Children’s fitness. She was given the opportunity to put these studies to practice in 2006,  when she began teaching Stretch N Grow, and she thoroughly loved teaching children as young as eighteen months the importance of exercise and eating healthy.

Her involvement in Sport is specifically in soccer where she has captained her local club Cabinteely Fc to many successful seasons, including gaining promotion to the DWSL Premier Division. Her involvement in the club wasn’t all playing, and under the guidance of the Director of Coaching in April 2007, she established weekly coaching sessions for the underage girls with an academy on Saturday mornings, this successful innovation was for the girls who didn’t want to ‘play with the boys’.  She is also heavily involved with the UCD Women’s Soccer Club, where she plays a key role on their committee since 2008.

She has currently taken a break from playing, as she became a first time mum in January 2014 to her baby girl but she is extremely excited about her involvement with Happy Feet Ireland as it allows her the opportunity to combine her love of soccer and interest in teaching children the importance of staying fit and healthy!

New Member – Sandra Lorenz-O’Sullivan, We Speak German

We Speak German offers German language lessons for children of preschool and primary school age in an engaging and fun environment. Our teaching approach is practical: learn first words and phrases through songs, rhymes and play activities, use the German language while drawing a picture or playing board games. Through theses activities the vocabulary grows and the correct grammar is learned along the way by using the language. Fun activities and using the German language from the very beginning are at core of our lessons.

Here’s what We Speak German offers:

– German language classes for children
– private lessons or small groups
– a proven certified teaching method
– materials developed by experts
– classes taught by a qualified native speaker
– classes & support for bilingual children with
– support & advice for parents

Lessons for German as a foreign language cover all areas relevant to children’s’ lives such as family and talking about oneself, numbers and colours, clothes, weather, food, toys, school, the great outdoors and lots more, and are filled with songs and rhymes, arts and craft activities, stories, playing board games or games of cards. All activities are designed to actively engage the children so that they are able to use the new words right from the start.

For bilingual children with German living in Ireland German is a minority language and We Speak German offers them and their parents support for keeping up their German and developed it further throughout the years. As an additional benefit it gives them the chance to use the language outside the home and meet other kids speaking the same language.

We Speak German is also available to work with preschools and primary schools if they would like to offer German as a foreign language as an extra curricular activity.

Sandra was born in Rostock, Germany and enjoyed living by the Baltic Sea until 2001 when she moved to Ireland. Before coming to Ireland she obtained a master degree in Education and Sociology from the University of Rostock, Germany. Sandra added further qualifications to her teaching experience and studied at the Goethe Institute German as a second language in pre and primary school as well as The KIKUS Method: Teaching German to Young Children at the Centre for Multilingualism in Early Childhood, Munich, Germany. Sandra began to learn her first foreign language, Russian, at the age of 9, followed by English and Spanish. She now has two children who are growing up bilingually with German and English.
